Hearthstone: Heart of the Sunwell Tavern Brawl

Hearthstone’s Tavern Brawls are an interesting addition to the game. Each one has unique rules that are specific to that Tavern Brawl. This shakes up the game a bit and forces players to break out of their comfort zone and use new strategies. I’ve been having fun trying them out.

I like to think of the Heart of the Sunwell Tavern Brawl as the “10 Mana Brawl”. Instead of starting out with 1 mana (as players do in a typical Hearthstone match) they started out with 10 mana. The result was that players could use cards right away that they otherwise would have had to wait for several turns to use.

Hearthstone: Free Pack From Webspinner Tavern Brawl

The Tavern Brawls in Hearthstone are interesting because they change up the rules that one would expect in a typical Hearthstone match. Each Tavern Brawl is unique and only lasts for a limited amount of time. So far, every new Tavern Brawl has offered players one free pack of cards after they win their first match.

The Webspinner Tavern Brawl took place during the first week of July of 2015. As you may have guessed, it involved lots and lots of spiders. I happen to like spiders, so I figured that I’d have a great time with the Webspinner Tavern Brawl. Instead, I found myself struggling.  The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on July 4, 2015.

Hearthstone: Free Card Pack From Banana Tavern Brawl

Tavern Brawl is something new in Heartstone. Each Brawl lasts for only a few days, and then gets replaced by a completely different one. There are unique rules for each Tavern Brawl, which I think helps to keep it interesting. To my surprise, I’m actually finding the Tavern Brawls to be a lot of fun!

In order to access a Tavern Brawl, a player must have at least one deck that is level 20 (or higher). It doesn’t matter which deck that happens to be. This time (and in the previous Tavern Brawl) player who won their first match received a free pack of cards.

I think of this particular Tavern Brawl as the “Banana Brawl”. It had some special banana cards that players could use in a number of ways. I ended up wining 2 matches before the “Bananas Brawl” ended. The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on June 24, 2015.

Hearthstone: Free Pack from Tavern Brawl

Hearthstone has added something new called Tavern Brawl. It is a new option for players. You can Play against other players in a somewhat casual match, play the Solo Adventures against the A.I., try Ranked Play and maybe earn a card back, or spend some gold or real world currency in order to enter the Arena…. and now, do a Tavern Brawl.

Tavern Brawl is unlocked once a player has a level 20 Hearthstone Hero. It doesn’t matter which Hero/Deck that happens to be. I decided to give the Tavern Brawl a try while it is free to play. There is also the potential for players to win a free card pack.

The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on June 19, 2015.

Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas – Heigan the Unclean

Curse of Naxxramus is the first expansion to the Hearthstone game. It is a solo adventure that came out a while ago, and I finally finished unlocking all the different wings. Players can unlock each wing by spending gold or real world currency. I chose to use gold.

The second boss in the Plague Quarter of Naxxramas is Heigan the Unclean.  Players can unlock this boss by defeating Noth the Plaguebringer (the first boss in the Plague Quarter). It took some trial and error, but I managed to defeat Heigan. The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on June 13, 2015.

Hearthstone: Heroes of the Storm Card Back

The Heroes of the Storm card back is fairly easy to get.  The thing Hearthstone players need to be aware of is that you cannot obtain this card simply by playing Hearthstone.  Instead, you need to play Blizzard’s newly launched game Heroes of the Storm.

The Heroes of the Storm game is free-to-play.  You can download it now for free and start playing immediately.  Your goal (if you want to earn the Heroes of the Storm card back) is to get to Player Level 12.  Keep going, and you will get there, eventually.

Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas – Noth the Plaguebringer

The Curse of Naxxramas solo play adventure was released before the Goblins v Gnomes expansion. Like many Hearthstone players, I opened up the first wing of Naxxramus right when it came out – for free! In order to access the rest of the content, a player must either earn enough in-game gold to do it, or pay for it with real-word currency.

My choice was to earn gold and buy the wings of Naxxramas that way. At the time I am writing this blog, I’ve opened all except the last portion. In previous blogs, I described my experience with the enemies in the first wing. This blog will focus on Noth the Plaguebringer. Some of the screenshots you see in this blog were taken on August 2, or August 10, 2014. The rest were taken on March 18, 2015.

Hearthstone: Chicken Dinner

Chicken Dinner is a reward that players can earn in Hearthstone. To get it, you have to win 100 games in any mode. It gives the player 300 gold.

To me, that means the game counted all my wins in regular Play, Ranked Play, and against the Innkeeper. (It would have counted my Arena wins too, if I had any).

I earned this reward on March 9, 2015. I had no idea that this reward even existed. A quick check of some forum posts indicates that there is some debate about whether or not the game really counts a player’s wins in any mode. Others seem to be unsure if this reward is still in the game and available for players to win. Yes, it is still there!

Hearthstone: Crafting Time

I’ve been playing Hearthstone since the beta, but have never taken in interest in learning how to craft cards.  Until recently, that is.  I got tired of being paired with opponents who had cards with Windfury on them.

Windfury allows a card attack twice in one turn.  Obviously, that’s an advantage over the minion cards that can only attack once per turn.  I did not have any cards that had Windfury.

It seemed to me that the only way to make sure that you get a particular card (or a certain type of card) is to craft it.  Sure, packs will give player five cards – but they will be random ones.

Hearthstone: Free Card Pack from Warlords of Draenor Expansion

For Christmas, one of my relatives got me the Warlords of Draenor Expansion for World of Warcraft. Inside the box was a card that had a Hearthstone code on it. The code gave me a free pack of cards to open (and add to my decks).

I forgot all about the card with the code until recently. Now seemed like a good time to use it. I was hoping it would somehow grant me a card that had Whirlwind on it, but that didn’t happen. The pack included a rare card. The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on March 1, 2015.
