Flight Rising: Glossy Finish Achievement Fail (Again)!

One of the fun things to do in Flight Rising is to breed dragons and see what their babies end up looking like.  There are several achievements that can only be earned if your dragons produce a baby that has a certain “special” gene.

I’ve been trying to get the Glossy Finish Achievement, but so far, all attempts have resulted in failure.  All of the artwork in this post is copyright of Flight Rising.

RoS Beta – Level 10: Breaking Not So Bad

The Diablo III: Reaper of Souls (RoS) beta is now over.  Even so, I wanted to continue blogging about my experience in it.  We still have some time before the RoS expansion is released.  Perhaps something in my blogs about it will interest and/or help someone who wanted to know more about what the beta was like.

I was playing a female Crusader named Joan.  In the previous blog, I stopped right after Joan hit Level 10. This blog will pick up at that point.  All of the screenshots used in this blog were taken on December 18, 2013.

Flight Rising: Theme Week – “Eyeburners”

Flight Rising has started doing Theme Weeks in the Dragon Share Forums.  Participate, and you get to show off your dragons that fit the theme.  Theme Week number 4 is Eyeburners!

In other words, share your dragons who have colors so bright, or color combinations so mismatched, that they are hard to look at.  Here’s mine!  All of the artwork you see in this post are copyright of Flight Rising.

Shattered Soulstone 100 Word Story Contest

The Demon Hunter skulked out of the shadows and glared across the dungeon. The other member of her party was about to head into trouble, and she was too far away to stop him.

“Get out of the lava, Smashez. You won’t survive it”.

The Barbarian climbed back up the stone steps and spat on the ground. “If that were so, then why are there stairs here?”

“We have bigger battles to fight than this one,” she reminded him. “Now, let’s go.”

The great Barbarian pouted and stomped his huge feet. “Aww, ThirtySeven, you never let me have any fun!”

Gardens of Time: The Tale Telling Art

Gardens of Time created a really fun Halloween chapter in October of 2013.  It was called “The Tale Telling Art”.  This chapter is no longer accessible.  Like the other holiday related chapters, it is only around for a limited time.  (This one expired on November 13, 2013).

All three scenes in the Halloween chapter were based on the work of Edgar Allen Poe.  Players needed to unlock these crystal chapters in order to get started.

Flight Rising: Circuit Breaker Achievement Fail (Again)!

Flight Rising is a game where you manage a Lair filled with dragons.  I’ve been working on earning the breeding achievements.  My second attempt to earn the Circuit Breaker Achievement has resulted in yet another fail!

This means I will have to try once more.   All of the artwork in this post is copyright of Flight Rising.

Book Reviews, fiction 0 comments on Haweswater – by Sarah Hall

Haweswater – by Sarah Hall

Haweswater starts with a violent birth, includes a flood, and ends not long after an explosion.  Yet, it is not a book that fits into the adventure genre.  The story takes place in, and around, the town of Mardale, which really did exist.  So did the Haweswater dam, a structure that takes on epic proportions in the story.  Yet, this book could not truly be described as historical fiction.

Instead, it is an incredibly compelling work of fiction about the interconnections between people and the land they live on.  I found myself falling into the story and wishing I could walk around the landscape described within it.

The main character is a woman named Janet.  The author, Sarah Hall, built this character from an old legend about a mysterious woman named Janet Tree.  Fiction and reality are intertwined like the roots of a plant in this beautiful, tragic, book.

RoS Beta – Level 9: Stuck in the Corner

This is part of my ongoing series of blogs where I review my progress through the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls beta.  I’ve been taking things slow, in part so that I would have the opportunity to really think about the game.

I’m playing a female Crusader that I named Joan.  She hit Level 9 at 2:50 a.m. on December 13, 2013.  Things got a little weird once she hit Level 9.  All of the screenshots that are used in this blog were taken on December 13, 2013.

Flight Rising: Theme Week – Deities!

What can you do with a Flight Rising dragon that you really need to get out of your Dragon Lair? One option is to exalt it.  When that happens, the dragon goes to live with one of the many dragon Deities.

Flight Rising has started doing really fun Theme Weeks in the “Dragon Share” Forum.  The theme for Week 3 is: Deities! All of the artwork you see in this post are copyright of Flight Rising.

RoS Beta – Levels 7 – 9: Common Debris and Rare Items

I’ve been blogging my experience in the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls beta in an effort to give myself time to really think about the game.  The result seems to be a series of gaming blogs that are rather introspective, and less of the “game guide” variety. I’ll leave the game guides for others to produce.

When I started the Reaper of Souls (RoS) beta, I rolled a brand new character.  Joan the Crusader gave me an opportunity to try out the new Crusader class.  When I left off, Joan had just hit Level 7 (as shown in the screenshot above).  She achieved Level 7 at around 2:35 a.m. on December 18, 2013.  All of the screenshots in this blog were taken on December 18, 2013.
