Candy Crush Saga: Candy Town

I started playing Candy Crush Saga shortly after I started playing Farm Heroes Saga. Both of them are “match-three” games made by King. There isn’t much of a story in Candy Crush Saga, which is to be expected in this type of game.

Candy Crush Saga sort of looks like the Candyland board game I played when I was a kid. I suspect the nostalgia factor is part of what makes Candy Crush Saga attractive to people who are my age. (I’m in my 40’s). I find King’s “match-three” games to be amusing when I’m too sick to play other games, or when I am looking for a short break while working.

Flight Rising: Deadland Disciple

The Deadland Disciple was the holiday Familiar for the 2015 Riot of Rot. Each festival is connected to a particular Dragon Flight. This one celebrates the Plague Flight. The 2015 Riot of Rot took place during the last week of October, 2015.

In order to obtain the special holiday items that go with the Riot of Rot, players needed to gather (or purchase, or craft) the All-Seeing Shroom currency. It is also possible to use the “leftover” holiday currency that was gathered during a previous Riot of Rot festival. All of the artwork in this post is copyright of Flight Rising.

Hearthstone: It’s Raining Mana! Tavern Brawl

The “It’s Raining Mana” Tavern Brawl took place in September of 2015. Little did I know at the time that I was about to take a hiatus from Hearthstone not long after this Tavern Brawl was over. The more matches I lose, the less fun Hearthstone becomes.

For this one, I was still happy because I was able to win one match and receive the free pack of Classic cards. The fun thing about this particular Tavern Brawl was that players got extra mana (starting on their second turn). The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on September 7. 2015.

Flight Rising: Stardust Scholar

The Stardust Scholar was the holiday Familiar for the 2015 Starfall Celebration. Each festival is connected to a particular Dragon Flight. This one celebrates the Arcane flight. The 2015 Starfall Celebration took place during the last full week of September of 2015.

The special holiday items that were part of this festival could only be obtained with the Magical Shard currency. Players can obtain it as a random drop from Gathering or the Coliseum. It is also possible to craft some. If all else fails, use some of your Treasure to purchase Magical Shard currency from the Auction House.

This year, I was able to obtain three out of the four special items from the Starfall Celebration. All of the artwork in this post is copyright of Flight Rising.

Hearthstone: The Great Summoner Competition Tavern Brawl

The Tavern Brawls in Hearthstone have “crazy rules” that are different each time. This makes them fun to play. It provides an entertaining challenge with all kinds of unexpected things happening during a match.

If that isn’t enough to entice players, there is also a prize. Win one match in a Tavern Brawl – and you get a free Classic pack of cards. I’ve been trying to get into the Tavern Brawls every time I notice that one has appeared (but may have missed a few).

The Great Summoner Competition Tavern Brawl added an extra amount of randomness to the game. The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on August 16, 2015.

Flight Rising: Molten Marauder

The Molten Marauder was the holiday Familiar for the 2015 Flameforger’s Festival. Each Festival is connected to a particular Dragon Flight in Flight Rising. This one celebrates the Fire Flight. The 2015 Flameforger’s Festival took place during the last week of August 2015.

The holiday items that were part of this festival could only be obtained with the Glowing Ember currency. Players can obtain it from random drops in Gathering or as random prizes in the Coliseum. It is also possible to craft some at Baldwin’s Bubbling Brew.

Although I wasn’t able to purchase everything offered during this Festival, I did pick up some cool stuff. I’m hoping that one I missed will be available next year when this holiday returns. All of the artwork in this post is copyright of Flight Rising.

Hearthstone: Too Many Portals! Tavern Brawl

I’ve been enjoying the Tavern Brawls in Hearthstone, and try to get into as many as I can. The randomness of the rules in the Tavern Brawl, and the access to cards I don’t actually have, makes things really fun.

The “Too Many Portals!” Tavern Brawl took place at the end of July/beginning of August 2015. This particular Tavern Brawl had 10 hours left when I started playing it.  I had enough time to play until I managed to win a match (and earn the free card pack).  The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on August 2, 2015.

Hearthstone: Heart of the Sunwell Tavern Brawl

Hearthstone’s Tavern Brawls are an interesting addition to the game. Each one has unique rules that are specific to that Tavern Brawl. This shakes up the game a bit and forces players to break out of their comfort zone and use new strategies. I’ve been having fun trying them out.

I like to think of the Heart of the Sunwell Tavern Brawl as the “10 Mana Brawl”. Instead of starting out with 1 mana (as players do in a typical Hearthstone match) they started out with 10 mana. The result was that players could use cards right away that they otherwise would have had to wait for several turns to use.

Hearthstone: Free Pack From Webspinner Tavern Brawl

The Tavern Brawls in Hearthstone are interesting because they change up the rules that one would expect in a typical Hearthstone match. Each Tavern Brawl is unique and only lasts for a limited amount of time. So far, every new Tavern Brawl has offered players one free pack of cards after they win their first match.

The Webspinner Tavern Brawl took place during the first week of July of 2015. As you may have guessed, it involved lots and lots of spiders. I happen to like spiders, so I figured that I’d have a great time with the Webspinner Tavern Brawl. Instead, I found myself struggling.  The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on July 4, 2015.

Flight Rising: Lightning Lancer

The Lightning Lancer was the holiday Familiar for the 2015 Thundercrack Carnivale. The festival took place during the last week of July, and the first week of August of 2015. This holiday is connected to the Lightning Flight.

The easiest way to collect a holiday Familiar is to gather up enough of the special currency during the week of that holiday. You can do this via Gathering, or by having your dragons battle in the Colosseum. The special currency is a random drop. This year, for the first time, players could also craft the holiday currency at Baldwin’s Bubbling Brew.
