Another Day, Another Dollar – Episode 001

Words of Jen is a podcast where I read a piece of my writing to you in each and every episode.  I started this podcast specifically for the tenth anniversary of NaPodPoMo.

In this episode, I read a short piece of science-fiction that I wrote in 2012.  It is titled “Another Day, Another Dollar”.

Another Day, Another Dollar

“Another Day, Another Dollar” is a short piece of science-fiction that I wrote in 2012.  It is the first piece of science-fiction that I’d ever attempted to write.

Back then, I was still using Facebook. I got involved with what turned out to be a very short lived group of writers that all wrote a story based on the same prompt. One day, the creator of the group disbanded it, and that was the end of that.

This short story is the first piece I read in my newly created Words of Jen podcast.

Season Journey Chapter IV (Season 11)

Qiwoot is a hardcore Monk that I started Season 11 with.  As you can see in the screenshot above, he obtained two Haedrig’s Gifts – which means he has four pieces of the Raiment of a Thousand Storms set.

Sadly, Qiwoot didn’t make it through Season 11.  At the time I am writing this, there are a few more days left in Season 11.  If I try to complete Chapter IV, it cannot be with Qiwoot.

Pharmaceutical Companies Must Give Notice Before Raising Prices

On October 9, 2017, California Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 17.  This law requires pharmaceutical companies to give notice before raising prices.  It protects consumers from greedy pharmaceutical companies that choose to raise the price of their drugs for no good reason.  SB 17 makes it easier for the people of California to be able to continue to afford the medications that they need.

The information on the Governor of California’s official website says:

“Californians have a right to know why their medication costs are out of control, especially when pharmaceutical profits are soaring,” said Governor Brown.

End of Fall Pollen Season 2017

There is no way to be absolutely certain that a pollen season has ended.  I typically declare a pollen season to be over when I’ve had seven days in a row where the pollen was lower than 7. The pollen counts you see above are from September 24-29, 2017.  I would prefer that the pollen drops to below 6 for a while so I can start recovering.

The pollen count for September 30, 2017, was 5.9. That’s great!  I’m hoping it stays that way.  Given the data from the past week, I declare the 2017 Fall pollen season to be over.

Obviously, your pollen count results may be different from mine because you probably live somewhere else. I recommend using Pollen.com as a resource.  Give it your zip code, and it will tell you the pollen count where you live every single day.

While it is never fun to suffer through a pollen season, I feel like I did better than expected this time around.  As I’m typing this blog, it feels like I have a cold – but not a sinus infection.  That could change, so I’m trying to avoid pushing myself.

Hearthstone: Card Backs

There was a time when I regularly put effort into earning a card back in Hearthstone. When I started trying to collect card backs, I was having fun with the experience. Once in a while, I return to Hearthstone and attempt to earn another card back.

The best thing about the card backs is the awesome artwork. This blog features all of the card backs that I have earned.

Potatoes

Today was Day 38 of the 2017 Fall pollen season.  I’m still having difficulty eating because of the temporary cap that is in my mouth and all of the dental work that required.

I peeled the four potatoes that Shawn and I bought at the grocery store yesterday.  He made them into mashed potatoes for me.  For the first time in what feels like a very long time, I was able to eat and feel full.

Spacey

Today is Day 37 of the Fall pollen season.  My mouth is still sore from the dental work I had a few days ago.  I’m not really able to chew food yet, and that makes getting enough calories incredibly difficult.

This is the third day in a row where I’ve tried to eat and ended up with less than 1,000 calories anyway.  As in, not even close to 1,000.  The result is I am super spacey and having difficulty focusing on anything.

Smoothie Fail!

Today is Day 36 of the 2017 Fall pollen season.  I’m having trouble eating due to the dental work I had done yesterday.  One of the people who worked in my teeth yesterday suggested that I drink smoothies.  The temporary cap they put on might have to be there for 10 days, and smoothies sounded like a reasonable solution for someone who can’t chew right now.

Except, of course, it turns out there aren’t any places in town that can make a smoothie that doesn’t contain things that I’m allergic to.  The photo above is of a wonderful pumpkin smoothie from Jamba Juice that I had last year.  Of course, Jamba Juice changed the ingredients – and this year’s version is unsafe for me to consume.
