We Eat in Front of the TV Now

I wrote this piece in 2003, when I was toying with the idea of writing a book about my early childhood.  I didn’t get very far and soon lost interest in completing it.  This piece of writing has never been posted online… until now. The events in piece of writing took place in the late 1970s.

I read “We Eat in Front of the TV Now” on episode 25 of my Words of Jen podcast.

Smart Light Bulbs and Cockatiels – Episode 024

This piece of writing started out as a series of tweets that I posted on Twitter on July 24, 2017.  Later, I moved it to a Tumblr account that no longer exists, and now it has been moved here.  It is about a strange thing that happened when the smart light bulb in the bird room woke up my cockatiels.

I read “Smart Light Bulbs and Cockatiels” on episode 24 of Words of Jen.

Smart Light Bulbs and Cockatiels

I wrote this on July 24, 2017, as a series of tweets on Twitter.  Then, I moved it to a Tumblr blog that no longer exists.  It is about what happened when some random person connected their TV to a smart light bulb that was in the room where my cockatiels were sleeping.

I read “Smart Light Bulbs and Cockatiels” in episode 24 of my Words of Jen podcast.

Toxic Comment Section Made Me Stop Listening to a Podcast – Episode 023

I wrote “Toxic Comment Section Made Me Stop Listening to a Podcast” something during the Summer of 2017, on a Tumblr blog that no longer exists.  It is about my thoughts while listening to a local radio “podcast” that didn’t moderate comments that came from live callers.

I read “Toxic Comment Section Made Me Stop Listening to a Podcast” in episode 23 of Words of Jen.

Toxic Comment Section Made Me Stop Listening to a Podcast

I wrote this earlier this year, probably in the summer of 2017, on a Tumblr blog that no longer exists.  It is about a local radio show “podcast” that I was enjoying…. until the toxic call-in comment section made me stop listening to it.

I read “Toxic Comment Section Made Me Stop Listening to a Podcast” in episode 23 of my Words of Jen podcast.

In Times of Tragedy – Episode 022

I wrote a poem called “In Times of Tragedy” on May 23, 2017, on a Tumblr blog that no longer exists.  The poem was my way of expressing what I was feeling after hearing that yet another gun massacre had occurred in the United States.

I read “In Times of Tragedy” in episode 22 of Words of Jen.

In Times of Tragedy

I wrote this poem on May 23, 2017, on a Tumblr account that no longer exists. I wrote it after hearing about yet another massacre that happened because a man who was angry obtained a gun and decided to slaughter people.

Every time this happens, Congress offers “thoughts and prayers”, and does nothing.

I read “In Times of Tragedy” on episode 22 of my Words of Jen podcast.

Keep Your Eyes Closed – Episode 021

I wrote “Keep Your Eyes Closed” on May 30, 2017, on a Tumblr blog that no longer exists. I was shopping for bras at Target, when a woman came into the women’s section with her 9 or 10 year old son. The mom clearly had some unresolved issues!

I read “Keep Your Eyes Closed” in episode 21 of Words of Jen.

Keep Your Eyes Closed

I wrote this piece of writing on May 30, 2017, on a Tumblr account that no longer exists. It is about something that happened while I was shopping for bras at Target. There was a woman who brought her son into the women’s section – and proceeded to make things really awkward for him.

I read “Keep Your Eyes Closed” in episode 21 of my Words of Jen podcast.

Why I Deleted All of My Political Posts – Episode 020

On April 8, 2017, I wrote a post on my Tumblr blog (which no longer exists) about my thoughts about the outcome of the 2016 election and what happened next.  It includes my attempt to cope with it all – which didn’t work out so well.

I read “Why I Deleted All of My Political Posts” in episode 20 of Words of Jen.
