Diablo III, Diablo Lore 1 comment on Mayor Holus

Mayor Holus

One of the things I really like about Diablo III is that many of the small NPCs (non-player characters) have their own stories. Such is the case with Mayor Holus, the rotund, well dressed, guy who players first meet in Act I of Story Mode.

I suspect that Mayor Holus was placed into the game, in precisely the spot he stands in, for functional reasons. He starts out as an intentionally unlikable character. Blizzard could have left it at that, but instead, actually wrote some character development for him. It is the little things like this that make the game so interesting.

Paragon Portrait Frames – to 100

paragon-level-10-portraitA player who goes from Paragon 1 to Paragon 100 unlocks a total of 10 Paragon Portraits. They flash by on the screen as the player is fighting a mob. This makes it hard to take a close look at them. Players who have gotten many characters to Paragon 100 – and beyond – might not care about the corresponding portraits.

You could stop by the in-game Wardrobe and take a look at all of the portraits that you have unlocked. I doubt most players spend a lot of time with the Wardrobe. It takes seconds to pick a portrait frame and get back to fighting demons.

In this blog, I have collected screenshots of all the portrait frames players can unlock as they go from Paragon 10 to Paragon 100.

Gifts From Kadala

Diablo III does not have any in-game world events that resemble real world holidays. Perhaps to make up for that, the @Diablo Twitter account has been putting together some holiday related tweets.

In October, there was a cute (and creepy) story called Queen Asylla’s Trick or Treat Tour. In December, they put together a story involving Kadala and and Legendary items. Who doesn’t love Legendaries? I think the title of this story is “Gifts from Kadala”.

Mosquito Swatter Achivement

josh-mosquiera-in-diablo-iiiMosquito Swatter is a Feat of Strength Achievement. I happened to earn it while playing my hard core Barbarian in a Torment II Nephalem Rift during Season 4 of Diablo III. Like many things in Diablo III, the ability to earn this Achievement depends on randomness.

When the Rift Boss appeared, it happened to be one named Josh Mosqueira – Reaper Of ‘Soles.

This Rift Boss is named after the Josh Mosqueira who is a Game Director for Diablo III. Players have to kill him to earn the Mosquito Swatter Achievement.

Leveling Achievements (Season 4)

head-and-shoulders-season-4

I rolled two hard core characters for Season 4 of Diablo III. One is a Wizard named Sparkle (whose name was inspired by the Diamond Skin spell). The other was a Barbarian named Zena (whose name was inspired by character on a TV show). At the time I am writing this blog, both of my hard core characters are still alive.

The purpose of this blog is to highlight the Seasonal Leveling Achievements that players earn as they work towards Level 70. I was playing my Wizard for the first ones, and finished up when I was playing my Barbarian. In the past, I’ve created one character for a Season and stuck with that one all the way through.

Season Journey Chapter IV (Season 4)

completed-chapter-4-objectives

Season 4 of Diablo III gave players something new to work on – the Season Journey. Players that complete all of the objectives through Chapter 4 receive two special prizes – a Season 4 Portrait Frame and a Frost Hound pet.

It took me a long time to complete Chapter 4, but it was worth it. There were a few times when I thought I would not be able to do all the objectives. It turned out that all I needed was more Paragon points and some better gear.

Queen Asylla’s Trick or Treat Tour

The @Diablo account on Twitter posted something special for Halloween. It a little story called “Queen Asylla’s Trick or Treat Tour”.

In the story, Queen Asylla (who is a ghost) goes trick-or-treating around Sanctuary. I love that they picked Queen Asylla for this story! She’s an interesting character that I think has a lot more potential than what we see in-game.

I’ve gathered up the entire tweeted story so it will be easy to find later on.

Season Journey Chapter III (Season 4)

completed-chapter-3-of-season-journeySeason 4 of Diablo III included something new called the Season Journey. Players who complete every objective, in all of the chapters, will receive a special Portrait Frame and a Pet. I have now completed 3 out of the 4 chapters.

My hope is that I will be able to finish the entire Season Journey before Season 4 ends. Right now, I think it might be something I can accomplish if I keep working at it. I thought that Chapter IV was the end of the Season Journey. Then, something popped up that indicated that there was much more to do beyond Chapter IV.

Season Journey Chapter II (Season 4)

season-journey-chapter-2-completed-season-4

Season 4 of Diablo III came with something new – the Season Journey. Players who complete all of the objectives, in every chapter, before the end of the Season will receive a special Portrait Frame and a cool Pet. (I think the pet looks like the skeletal pug – before it became a skeleton).

I thought I would be able to blow through the Season Journey rather quickly, but it is taking longer than I though it would. I recently completed Chapter II, and have no idea if I’ll be able to finish everything in time.

Season Journey Chapter I (Season 4)

part-of-season-journey-act-1

Season 4 of Diablo III included something brand new. The Season Journey has several Chapters. Players who work their way through all of it will get a special Portrait Frame and Pet. So far, I’m having a great time with it and looking forward to completing the entire thing.

Players start with Chapter I of the Season Journey. You will be able to see all the tasks that are part of that chapter. I learned that it is possible to complete tasks from Chapter II before you finish Chapter I. However, you can’t unlock a new Chapter until you finish the previous one.
