The Hours – by Michael Cunningham

In general, I make an effort to read a book before I watch the movie that is based upon it. Often, this makes the movie more interesting, as I already have become familiar with who the main characters are and how they are connected to each other.

Sometimes, this backfires, and I end up sadly disappointed by the movie that doesn’t match the quality of a book that I enjoyed. Once in a while, I see a movie before I have any idea that it was based upon a book. Such is the case with The Hours.

My overall impression of the movie was that there was something going on that I was missing. What were these characters thinking about in silence? It must have been important, but I could not deduce what, exactly, it was.

Smashez Stanzenfyr

Shawn and I had more than an hour to play Diablo III together this time! When we started, my Demon Hunter, ThirtySeven, was at level 29. Shawn’s Barbarian, Smashez, was at level 28. They were about to run through the Keep Depths.

During their adventure, it became clear that Smashez has a last name – Stanzenfyr. (Say that one out loud).  He just cannot stop himself from hitting the barrels that have an oil lantern sitting on them. Seconds later, Smashez is standing in fire.

The Cove – by Ron Rash

The Cove starts with a mystery. A man has been hired by the government to drive out and notify residents that the area they live in was going to be intentionally flooded, and also to evict them. He goes into a place called “the cove”, happy that there is no one living there anymore.

The buildings are abandoned. When he uses the well to get some water he finds a human skull. Who was it? What happened? Ron Rash does, eventually, answer those questions for his readers. My first impulse, after finishing the story, was to go back and re-read the beginning portion where the skull was found.

Evil Dead 2013 – Review

This movie review of the Evil Dead 2013 remake was originally posted on a site called Kernel Critic – which no longer exists.

Evil Dead (2013) holds absolutely nothing back! The film is extremely violent and gory in ways that take notes from the previous movies and expand upon them. Fans of the series will find several key elements in this remake, including The “Book of the Dead” and the visual of a creepy figure peeking out from under a door to the basement.

The movie introduces a brand new cast of characters who encounter the “evil dead” during a visit to a cabin in the woods.

Another Hour’s Worth of Progress

There are days when Shawn and I don’t have a whole lot of time to play Diablo III together, but still want to play. If you only have an hour – then an hour will have to do!

When we started, my Demon Hunter, ThirtySeven, and his Barbarian, Smashez, were in Act III of Normal difficulty. Each was at level 28. Not much progress happened in the hour that we played this time, but every little bit helps!

Diablo III, Events/Bounties 0 comments on The Family of Rathe

The Family of Rathe

The Family of Rathe event can be found in the Decaying Crypt in Act I. Players can start looking for it somewhere in the Fields of Misery. This event can also be offered to players as a Bounty.

The event starts when a player encounters a ghost girl named Willa Rathe. She can be found in the Decaying Crypt Level 2.  If you are using the Templar as your follower when this event pops up, he will make some comments about spirits.  The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on April 8, 2013.

Complaining in the Form of Haiku

People use their Twitter accounts for a wide variety of things. I like to use mine to post the haiku that pops into my head as I go through my day. I’ve been rather sick lately (but I’m not dying, don’t worry). The result is I have several haiku that are about being sick. If you are going to complain about something, you might as well do it in a creative way!

An Hour’s Worth of Progress

Shawn and I don’t get to play Diablo III together too often, but we like to when we can – even if it is only for a hour. When they left off, my Demon Hunter, ThirtySeven, and Shawn’s Barbarian, Smashez, were in Act III of Normal mode.

I think they were both at level 28. They didn’t get too much farther (due to the limited amount of time) but managed to run into some interesting monsters anyway.
