This blog is part of the series I am doing about my progress through Season 1 in Diablo III.  I have no idea if I will do another Season, so it seemed like a good idea to go ahead and make lots of blogs about this one.   There are Leaderboards in the game, but I doubt I’ll be on any of them. These blogs are my own, personal, Leaderboard.  If I end up doing another Season, I will use these blogs to help me figure out if I do better, or worse, in Season 2 than I did in Season 1.

The previous two blogs were about the progress that my Barbarian, Gurr, made through Act 1.  I started out with Shawn and his Monk, Qiz.  (Qi is pronounced “Chee”.  The Z on the end means that Shawn’s Monk is named “Cheese”.)

I ended up playing more than Shawn did, so things got a little out of order.  The easiest way to explain it is that Gurr had moved on to Act II (or maybe beyond) and then went back to Act I to kill demons with Qiz.

Some of the screenshots you see in this blog are from August 31, 2014.  Others are from September 2 or September 3, 2014.  I’m not sure what level Gurr started off at.  Upcoming blogs will fill in the gap between his progress here and what he did in Act II.  I should probably mention that were were playing in Story Mode on Normal difficulty.

I’m going to start this blog with the Legendary items that Gurr found while going through this part of Act I with Qiz.  The first Legendary item of this session dropped in The Fields of Misery.  The Nagelring has flavor text that says: Crafted by a mad sorcerer during his long imprisonment within the bitter labyrinths of the Black Obelisk of Vyr.

Primary: +20 Strength, Attack Speed Increased by 2.0%, Regenerates 26 Life per Second, Reduces all resource costs by 3%
Secondary: +10% Extra Gold from Monsters, 47% Better Chance of Finding Magical Items

The next two items dropped somewhere in Wortham. One is a Legendary item. The other is a blue items that was a rather curious drop. The Legendary item was Odyn Son. The flavor text on it says: This hammer rumbles with the sound of distant thunder.

Primary: +12 – 15 Lightning Damage, Lightning skills deal 5% more damage., +76 Vitality
Secondary: Monster kills grant +22 experience., 39% chance to Chain Lightning enemies when you hit them.
It also had a socket.  I put a chipped Amethyst in it because it was the best I had at the time.

The next item was a mystery.  It was not a Legendary – it was a blue item.  The item level was 50 but Gurr the Barbarian was only at Level 26.  Is this item needed for something special?  The Splintered Oar has flavor text that says: “From Kingsport to Kurast we sail.  From Lut Gholein to Skovos we roam.  When the winds are not blowing, we’ll row our damned way home!” – The Sea Trader’s Song.

Primary: Nothing at all is listed as “Primary”.   Secondary: 1.9% Chance to Knockback on Hit.
At the time I am writing this blog, Gurr has leveled past 50. I’m going to equip this weapon next time I play and see what happens.

There were two Legendary items that dropped somewhere in Leoric’s torture chambers.  Gungdo Gear has flavor text that says: “Cover your wrists in righteousness that you may strike with the will of the gods.” – Tenets of the Veradani

Primary: Fire skills deal 5% more damage, +45 Strength, +45 Vitality, +110 Life Per hit
Secondary: 11% Extra Gold from Monsters, Reduces duration of control impairing effects by 5%

The Steady Strikers have flavor text that says: You need only intend to strike your target, and your hands will wield the weapon with the confidence of a seasoned veteran.

Primary: Fire skills deal 6% more damage, +41 Strength, +41 Vitality, Attack Speed Increased by 4.0%
Secondary: +11% Extra Gold from Monsters, Increases Gold and Health Pickup by 2 Yards.

Gurr the Barbarian did not hit any new Levels while helping Qiz through this part of Act I.  That’s fine, since he did manage to level up a bit in Act II.  I am mentioning this to explain why this blog doesn’t have any screenshots of Gurr reaching new Levels.  He did, however, run into some interesting monsters.

That’s the Skeleton King and the Butcher.  I couldn’t get a screenshot with their name in it, but that’s ok, since it is pretty obvious who they are.  This marks Gurr’s second time killing each of those bosses in Season 1.  Gurr managed to get some Achievements in this, his second trip through Act 1.

Follow Me Around: Teleport to another player by clicking on his or her banner.

Moneybags: Pick up 100,000 gold.

Cult Cleanup: Kill 1,000 Triune in Act 1 in the Season.

Iron Heart: Raise the Blacksmith to Level 5

A Life With Meaning: Raise the Blacksmith to level 10.

In the Loupe: Level up the Jeweler.

I Like Jewels: Raise the Jeweler to level 5.

A Royal Pain: Kill the Skeleton King in a Cooperative Game.

Short Reign:  Kill the Skeleton King in under 20 seconds.

Slaughterhouse:  Kill 50 elite (champion, rare, or unique) enemies in cooperative games.

Super Meat Ploy: Kill the Butcher in a cooperative game.

Eternal War: Complete the Eternal War event.

Eternal War (Cooperative): Complete the Eternal War event in a cooperative game.

The “Double Treasure Goblin” Buff was still going on for at least part Gurr’s adventure through Act 1 with Qiz.  The buff started before Season 1 did.  It was not there as a part of Season 1.  I don’t think we can automatically assume that every Season will start with a Double Treasure Goblin buff.  (But, I’m happy that this one did!)

In this next screenshot, it is hard to see the Double Treasure Goblins.  The text in the chat shows that they really are just around that corner.

Here’s a nice screenshot of Gurr the Barbarian at Level 34.

This completes the adventures of Gurr through Act 1 with “Cheese”.  The next blog will feature Gurr’s solo adventure through Act II (in Normal Difficulty).
