The Curse of Naxxramus is a solo adventure that you can play in Hearthstone.  This blog is about the Rogue Class Challenge that is in the Arachnid Quarter portion of the adventure.  First, you must beat all three of the bosses in the Arachnid Quarter in “Normal” difficulty.  This unlocks the two class challenges.  In this blog, I will focus on the Rogue Class Challenge.

It took me two tries to get through the Rogue Class Challenge.  The screenshots that you see in this blog were taken on July 29, 2014.  The next step, after completing both the Class Challenges in the Arachnid Quarter is to fight against the bosses in “Heroic” difficulty.

In the screenshot above, you can see that there is a little red box with the number 1 in it sitting on the “Class Challenge” bar.  This indicates that I have already defeated one of the 2 Class Challenges.  I decided to do the Druid Class Challenge first.  Next, I need to complete the Rogue Class Challenge.

This Class Challenge requires you to play a “special” Rogue deck (personified by Valerra Sanguinar) against Maexxna (one of the three bosses in the Arachnid Quarter).

The box that describes the Rogue Challenge says: Rogue Challenge – Rematch!  Can you defeat the boss using this special Rogue deck?  Defeat her and gain a Rogue card!  The locked chest indicates that there is a card being offered as a prize.

Valeera vs Maexxna

Lich Kel’Thuzad returns to taunt the player again, just like he did during the battle agains Maexxna in “Normal” difficulty.

Lich Kel’Thuzad: Her poison will make your death *mostly* painless.

My first attempt ended in failure.  The only good thing about it was that that I earned enough experience points for my Rogue deck to hit Level 5.

My second attempt went much better.  I ended up with a card I don’t think I’ve ever seen before.  Loatheb – Battlecry: Enemy spells cost (5) more next turn.  The art in this card has a dragon around it.  It indicates that this is not a standard card.  It is a Legendary card (the highest level of rarity in Hearthstone).

The trick to fighting against Maexxna is to keep attacking her minions as much as possible.  Use the Rogue deck Hero Power to shoot directly at Maexxna.  Put as many minions on the board as you can.  She has several cards that spawn their own minions and quickly overpower the player.

As you can see in the screenshot below, Maexxna had pretty much run out of cards by Round Five.

Neither of her cards had Taunt on them.  That meant I could use any of my minions to take away her last remaining health point.  Or, I could use the Rogue Hero Power to do it.  Instead, I used a card that takes a shot at the opposing player the moment it is placed on the board.

VICTORY!

The victory gave me enough experience points for my Rogue deck to hit Level 6.

The reward for completing the Rogue Class Challenge is two Anub’ar Ambusher cards.

The reward for having a Rogue deck hit Level 6 is two Shiv cards.
