I wrote this poem while under the influence of both Zyrtec and Benadryl, which I hoped would help me survive this year’s Fall pollen season. The suffering I go through every Fall (and Spring) feels like a curse.
Days and days, filled with haze
Blunting thought and clouding gaze
Pollen spewing weeds and trees
Slowly, slowly, poison me
Dose of diphenhydramine
Taken with cetirizine
Temporary remedy
Shadow creatures now I see
When the pollen reaches nine
I am itching all the time
Pollen count of ten releases
All coherent thinking ceases
