Players who want to earn the special rewards that are offered during a Season need to complete the Season Journey Chapters I – IV. It’s fine to stop after that if all you wanted was those rewards.
That being said, there is more to the Season Journey than the Chapters. If you choose to continue, the next portion is called Slayer. It provides extra challenges for players. Those who complete Slayer will unlock more parts of the Season Journey.
So far, I’ve been able to complete Chapters I – IV in most Seasons. Slayer has eluded me though, despite my best efforts. Season 7 was the very first time I was able to complete Slayer. Here are the Slayer objectives for Season Seven of Diablo III.
One of the things I like about the Season Journey is that players can complete parts of it that they haven’t unlocked yet. By the time I unlocked Slayer, I’d already finished two of its objectives – just by playing the game.
This is what the Slayer part of the Season Journey looks like when players unlock it.
No, You Can’t Have It Back: Obtain a Legendary item by spending Blood Shards with Kadala.
Third Power Cubed: Equip Kanai’s Cube with armor, weapon and a ring Legendary power.
Rifticulous: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment V difficulty or higher.
The Realm of Regret: Slay The King of the Dead and The Merciless Witch at level 70 on Torment I difficulty or higher. The Infernal Machine for the Realm of Regret drops from Odeg the Keywarden of Regret in the Fields of Misery.
The Realm of Putridness: Slay The Vile Executioner and The Foul Desecrator at level 70 on Torment I difficulty or higher. The Infernal Machine for the Realm of Putridness drops from Sokhar the Keywarden of Putridness in the Dahlgur Oasis.
Scar Tissue: Kill the Butcher at level 70 on Torment VI difficulty or higher.
Rock Your Body: Kill Zoltun Kulle at level 70 on Torment VII difficulty or higher.
Gems In, Gems Out: Level one Legendary Gem to level 25.
Solipsist: Reach Greater Rift Level 30 Solo.
The last objective that I needed to complete was one that involved a Set Dungeon.
If you played a Demon Hunter in Season Seven, the Haedrig’s Gift gave you pieces of the Unhallowed Essence Set. Those who make it to the Slayer part of the Season Journey will have that complete set.
I was playing a softcore Demon Hunter in Season Seven, so it made sense for me to seek out the Unhallowed Essence Set dungeon. You can find it next to this cart in the Howling Plateau (in Act II).
Ignore the arrow on the map. (It was pointing me toward a Bounty that I was not interested in doing while I was looking for the Set Dungeon). The green spot on the map shows where the Unhallowed Essence Set Dungeon is located.
If you have played through Story Mode, you might remember the little area in Act II where Lacuni are up in the rocks (waiting to jump down on the player). This small area leads to the larger portion of the Howling Plateau.
To find this Set Dungeon in Adventure Mode, start with the Howling Plateau waypoint in Act II, and go back to this smaller area.
Here are my results from when I completed the Unhallowed Essence Set Dungeon for the first time. It took two or three tries to get these results. You do not have to Master the a Set Dungeon in order to complete the Slayer objective.
I was only able to hit 20 enemies with a single Multishot 2 times – so I failed the first Primary Objective. I was able to keep my Discipline above 50% the entire time, so I successfully completed that Primary Objective.
I was able to kill 320 monsters without taking fatal damage. But, I was too slow. Players are supposed to complete the Set Dungeon objectives within 4 minutes and 30 seconds. It took me eight minutes and fifty-nine seconds to complete two objectives.
It was just enough for me to complete the last Slayer Season Journey objective.
Set Me Free: Complete any Set Dungeon. While wearing the 6-piece bonus of a Class Set, visit the Tome of Set Dungeons in Leoric’s Manor for a clue that will lead you to the entrance to your Class Set’s Dungeon.
SEASON JOURNEY (SLAYER) COMPLETE!
I had now completed all of the Slayer part of the Season Journey. This was the first time I’d done that, and I was pretty excited about it! Players who complete Slayer earn two rewards.
One reward was a Banner Sigil. You can find this clicking on your Banner. Players who had completed the Unhallowed Essence Set Dungeon before Season Seven probably earned this reward at that time.
To find (and use) this Sigil, start by clicking on your Banner. Doing so will open up a window that will let you customize your Banner. There will be a gold star on the Sigil tab. It is pointing out which tab your new Sigil is in.
This is what the Sigil looks like. (You can pick whatever colors you want for your Banner.)
Players who completed Slayer in the Season Journey for Season Seven got a special Portrait Frame reward. To find it, you need to use the Wardrobe (which looks like a big mirror that is located in the Mystic’s area).
There is a section in the Wardrobe that will show you all of the Portrait Frames that you have earned. You can equip any one of them whenever you want to.
Those who completed the Slayer part of the Season Journey during Season Seven receive the “Eternal Woods – Slayer” Portrait Frame. It looks similar to the “Eternal Woods” Portrait Frame that players earned when they completed Chapter IV (in Season Seven).
There is a subtle difference between the two. The “Eternal Woods – Slayer” Portrait Frame has some bronze leaves (for lack of a better word) in the bottom center of the frame. The “Eternal Woods” frame does not have those.
The “Eternal Woods – Slayer” Portrait Frame is the one that has the flavor text that says: “You slayed ’em”.
After a player completes the Slayer part of the Season Journey, they can choose to stop – or to continue through more parts of the Season Journey. The next part is called Champion. To open it, a player simply needs to click that box (which appears next to the completed Slayer part of the Season Journey.)
Hi Jen. this could be a bit of a long post. There’s so much I want to say to you. First off, I love that you are on Shattered Soulstone, and I pray you are well enough to be on every episode. I understand that you are not, as I am an allergy sufferer myself. You deserve a huge something for doing podcasts yourself, I really enjoy them. Thank you.
I really love your Jen’s Lore Corner. Can you do more of these please? They are absolutely fantastic! Please keep doing them. I really loved the Rondal and Marta story you did, very well done! You should write books, you have a gift. Seriously.
In season 7 I was almost your twin. I did play a wizard, and I know you were a DH. I only got to Slayer, and only completed 2 phases (?) of Champion. My best was level 34 in season 7 and that was a struggle, so I am with you sister!
Just some fyi here – I am also in California, I live about 150 miles east of San Fran in the Sierra Nevada foothills. It’s very beautiful here, and the standard of living is low, but the costs are not. That’s the main reason I only play solo in D3, my internet connection is slow and not always reliable. That’s one of the costs of living in the forest. I don’t dare play hardcore, I’ve lost characters to dropouts on my internet connection. I wish there was an off line mode for D3, but we all know the answer to that.
Anyway Jen, you’re probably tired of this. Please Jen, keep up your fabulous work on the Shattered Soulstone. I’ve been a listener of all the Diablo podcasts since they’ve all begun, pretty much anyway, but I must say I like the SS the best. But Flux and Nineball and Leviathan are great also. I hope all of the D3 podcasts keep going for years to come. Oh, and I also listen to hyper nonsense. Love it! And Sean is great too.
Take care Jen, and I hope you and Sean are doing well.
D.
Dan,
Thank you for the lovely comment! It does sound like we were “Season 7 twins” (because we both got stuck at the same part of the Season Journey).
I appreciate the compliments about the Jen’s Lore Corner and Shattered Soulstone stuff that I do. Thank you! It is very encouraging. I have plans for more Jen’s Lore Corner episodes but I’ve been too busy to put them together. As soon as things slow down, I’ll start recording those again.
Jen
