In 2014, Blizzard Entertainment paired up with Paul Jr. and his team from the television show American Choppers. The purpose was to have two choppers created – one based on the Horde and one based on the Alliance. This mini-version of the regular show was called Azeroth Choppers.
You can now obtain the Alliance Champion’s Treadblade in the World of Warcraft game. Start saving up your gold!
At the end of the Azeroth Choppers show, players of World of Warcraft were asked to vote for the chopper that they most wanted to see in-game. The Horde won the vote. As a result, players who logged into World of Warcraft during a certain time period received a free Horde Chopper.
What did the Alliance get? The Alliance lost the vote, so they did not receive a free mount (like the Horde did). However, that did not mean that the Alliance was left without access to an in-game chopper that resembled the ones from the show.
The above screenshot came from Battle.Net. The article it came from was posted on August 1, 2014. It says:
Due to popular demand (and a few shady back-alley deals in Stormwind’s Old Town), the Alliance bike built for Azeroth Choppers will be rumbling its way to a vendor in Azeroth after the launch of Warlords of Draenor. The mount will cost a pretty hefty sum of gold, however, so you might want to start saving up now if you want to ride around in style on the masterful machine.
To get the Alliance chopper, which is officially called the Champion’s Treadblade, the first thing you must do is go to Stormwind and head to Old Town. In the middle of Old Town, you will find Paulie <Old Town Choppers>.
As you can see, he is standing next to the Alliance chopper from the Azeroth Choppers show. I saw both of the “in real life” choppers when I attended Blizzcon 2014. I think they did a good job of re-creating both the Horde, and the Alliance, choppers in-game.
Paulie is a vendor who sells only one item – the Champion’s Treadblade mount. As previously mentioned, it does cost “a pretty hefty sum of gold”.
The Champion’s Treadblade mount costs 100,000 gold.
The Champion’s Treadblade mount can only be purchased, and used, by Alliance characters. The Horde Chopper can only be used by Horde characters. Each are faction-only mounts.
What if you play both factions? If you logged into World of Warcraft during the limited time period that the Horde chopper was available, it has already been added to your mount tab. It is officially named the Warlord’s Deathwheel.
Do you want the Alliance chopper, too? Log in with one of your Alliance characters and have him or her go visit Paulie in Old Town. If you have enough gold, you can buy the Champion’s Treadblade. In other words, having one of the factional choppers doesn’t prevent you from getting the other one.
At the time I am writing this blog, I do not have enough gold to buy the Champion’s Treadblade. It is something that I plan on buying when I am able. I am amused by the thought of my World of Warcraft characters riding around Azeroth on a chopper that I saw “in person” at Blizzcon 2014.
