The Ghosts in the Dark Achievement has been in-game since 2010. Shawn and I didn’t discover it until 2015. The interesting thing about this Achievement is that it involves a Demon Hunter – but is not part of the Legion expansion (which is in beta at the time I am writing this blog).

The Ghosts in the Dark Achievement is for Alliance characters, only. There is a separate one (called Joy Ride) for Horde characters. Shawn and I were playing two Dwarf characters together, so we did the Alliance version.

The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on August 20, 2015.

The first thing you need to do is take your Alliance character to the Maw of the Void. It is the gigantic whirlpool that is located near Lor’Danel in the Darkshore zone.

Hansbrix and Bradanna are riding/floating in the Mekgineer’s Chopper mount.  The brown “island” near them is Fridge, Hanxbrix’s pet bear.

The game realized that The Dwarves “Discovered: Maw of the Void” as they floated closer to the edge of the waterfall.

If you look very closely, you will see two colored dots.  One is Bradanna and the other is Hansbrix.  The fall caused them to dismount.

The fall into the Bashal’Aran Collapse caused both Hansbrix and Bradanna to earn the Going Down Achievement.

Going Down?  Achievement earned by Bradanna on 8/20/2015.  Fall 65 yards without dying.

Climb up the ramp, and you will find an NPC (non-player character) who looks like a Demon Hunter.

Telarius Voidstrider <Herald of the Dark Embrace>

Telarius Voidstrider: You are not of the dark path!  You do not belong here, dwarf.

Telarius Voidstrider: The shadows will consume you.  You are not prepared to face the void.

Telarius Voidstrider will attack the player, and won’t stop until the player kills him.

Make sure you loot Telarius before you leave.  He has a special item you need to pick up in order to earn the Achievement.

The special item is called Writings of the Dark Herald.  Click it to start a quest.

Writings of the Void

The scrolls are vague and appear to be a piece of a much larger puzzle, but if you are not mistaken, they seem to reveal some of the steps on the path to becoming a demon hunter.

The dark oaths and rituals necessary for becoming a demon hunter are frowned on by most of the night elves, so this is likely something they would be very interested in keeping quiet.

Ranger Glynda Nal’Shea will know what to do with these scrolls.

The player must bring the Writings of the Dark Herald to Ranger Glynda Nal’Shea at Lor’danel.

This brings up a bit of a problem.  You got into the Bashal’Aran Collapse by falling through the Maw of the Void.  How are you supposed to get out of this cave?  Go back down the ramp and talk with the NPC that you passed by on your way to find Telarius Voidstrider.

Bielara Ivyshroud is an NPC Night Elf who doesn’t appear to be a Demon Hunter.  Her entire purpose is to help players get back out of the Bashal’Aran Collapse.  (One could reasonably assume she could get herself out of there, too.)   Stop and talk to her.

Bielara Ivyshroud: I wasn’t expecting anyone down here.  Come to keep me company, or just looking for a way out?

Click on the option that says: I’d like to leave this place.

You will find yourself looking out of a cave entrance that leads to Darkshore.

Ranger Glynda Nal’Shea: How can I help you, priest?  (Hit “Continue” to give her the Writings of the Dark Herald item).

Writings of the Void

Ranger Glynda Nal’Shea: Where did you find these?!  You haven’t shown them to anyone else, have you?

I apologize.  You took me off guard.  Telarius was a very powerful Demon Hunter, but he was slain during a confrontation with the warden, Maiev, many years ago.  You are fortunate that his ghost was only a shade of his former power.  I wonder how many have found their way to him in those ruins.

I will see to it that these scrolls make their way to the high priestess immediately.  Thank you, Bradanna.
