In episode four of Skolnick’s Warcraft Less Traveled, he gave directions to a lonely little place called Newman’s Landing. I was able to visit it before Cataclysm.
I arrived there at night, which made the place a little creepy to visit. There is a small house located at Newman’s Landing. The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on November 18, 2010. Later, after the Cataclysm expansion was released, I went back to Newman’s Landing to see what had changed.
It seemed fitting to explore for a little while as a “pumpkin head”.
Here is a view of the dock that sits by the water. I knew that sometimes there were Goblin NPCs that appear here. None of them appeared while I was there. The dock was empty.
Under the water, there is a broken, sunken, boat.
Here is another view of the house. I have heard that there sometimes is an NPC of a human, female, ghost that appears in the doorway. She didn’t appear while I was visiting Newman’s Landing.
There really wasn’t a whole lot more to see.
I wondered if Newman’s Landing would still be here, after Cataclysm. It used to be located right on the very edge of the water. Did it get washed away? Hansbrix and I set off to find out! The screenshots you see in this part of the blog were taken on January 9 and 10, 2012.
Instead of swimming around the coast, we were able to just get on our flying mounts, and zoom out there. This is a big improvement!
At first, we were worried that it has been washed away, and that all that remained was what once was the land behind it. Could this be the place where Newman’s Landing once stood?
We continued on, hopeful that we would be able to find it after all. Suddenly, there it was! Newman’s Landing survived the Cataclysm.
This time, the dock had the two Goblin “Booty Bay Bruisers” who I’d heard about, but did not see on my previous visit.
The creepy looking house was still there, too. The ghost of a human female who I’ve heard appears in the doorway did not make an appearance.
Just for the sake of comparison, I took a screenshot of the dock from the same angle as I did on my previous visit. It wasn’t quite so empty this time around.
The broken, sunken, boat remains. The difference is that it is located much deeper beneath the surface of the water now.
The sign, that says “Newman’s Landing” when you scroll over it, is still here. So is the skeleton that sits under it. It seems that his skull has fallen off the knife as a result of the Cataclysm.
When I visited Newman’s Landing before Cataclysm, I neglected to take any screenshots of what the inside of the house looked like. So, I made sure to take one now. I don’t think anything has changed.
Outside the house, there still wasn’t much to see.
Hansbrix and I climbed some of the surrounding hills, just to see what else might be out there. The only thing we found was a lovely view of the moon over the water.
Instead of hearthing back to Stormwind, we decided to log out here. The hope was that when we logged back in the next night, that perhaps, some of the NPCs that we had never seen would be there, waiting for us to meet them.
Our gamble paid off! When we returned, we found High Admiral “Shelly” Jorrick, (now retired), fishing off the pier.
It turns out that he is a vendor, and can fix your armor as well.
