Operation Gnomeregan is the pre-Cataclysm event for the Alliance. In this series of blogs about the event, I will review the quests that low level Alliance players had access to. The screenshots you see in this blog were taken on September 7, 2010.
To start doing the Operation Gnomergan event, you need to head to Ironforge. The very first quest is called “A Few Good Gnomes”.
After you get inside Ironforge, you need to head to Tinker Town. It made sense that things started in that part of Ironforge. That’s where the Gnomes hang out!
Talk to High Tinker Mekkatorque.
He gives you the quest “A Few Good Gnomes”.
High Tinker Mekkatorque: Our engineers have been working on getting our battle machines ready for our assault on Gnomeregan, but we’re out of pilots!
We’ve developed a device called the Motivate-a-Tron, which prevents distraction from other sources and gives the gnome the courage to enlist.
After motivating a few Gnome Citizens, lead them out to Captain Tread Sparknozzle out at Steelgrill’s Depot, just south of Ironforge.
Oh, and be careful. The device is still a little experimental!
Use the “Motivate-a-tron” to convince Gnome Citizens to enlist.

The “Motivate-a-tron” doesn’t always work. Sometimes, it makes giant Gnomes instead.
You need to get a total of 5 Gnome “volunteers”.
The next step is to take your 5 Gnome “volunteers” to Steelgrill’s Depot. They will automatically follow you as you go through Ironforge.
Alliance players could do this quest more than once. I ran several of my character through this fun quest. Hansbrix (my husband’s character) and I did this part of the quests together. The screenshots you see in this part of the blog were taken on September 7 and 24 of 2010.
First, we took the time to each gather up 5 Gnome “volunteers”. We ended up with a total of 10 Gnomes, plus the two of us. The next thing to do was to take all the Gnomes to Steelgrill’s Depot.
Don’t want to take the time to walk all that way? If you get on your mount…
…the gnomes all get on mechanostriders…
…and will follow you down the hill.
Go to Steelgrill’s Depot.
Turn in your Gnome “volunteers” to Captain Tread Sparknozzle.
This completes the “A Few Good Gnomes” quest.
