This week, it dawned on me that I’d never played Diablo III (intentionally) all by myself. Some late nights/early mornings I started off by myself, and then had other players join me. Other nights, I specifically went in knowing I was going to play with someone (usually Shawn). It seemed like a good time to learn how to create a closed game, and to see what it was like to experience it.
The first thing I had to do was figure out how to let the game know that I didn’t want to accept other players into my game this time. To do it, I learned, one must go into the game options, and then into the “social” part, and then uncheck the box next to where it says “Allow Quick Join”.
I took a screenshot so that later, when I forget how to enable/disable “Quick Join”, I will have a visual reference of where to find it.
Here are some of the highlights of Zeta the Barbarian’s solo adventure.
Ding! Level 45!
Siuzogg Skullcrusher
Grash the Unforgiven
Grash the Unforgiven, and his band of electrified friends, killed me on my first attempt to kill them. On my first try, I took out at least one of the friends of Grash, and took out the rest on my second try. Nothing left but some loot, a pile of bodies, and a song by Metallica playing in my head.
Fausto Drekroot
This was the point where I decided that Whirlwind was my new favorite thing ever!
Zeta and Kormac destroyed the Trebuchet Device.
The disembodied head of Azmodon returns, and has more to say.
Later, Tyrael joins the party. (Our foes did not grow stronger).
Tyrael: Forward, friend! Now we shall drive Azmodan’s army back into the accursed crater!
Zeta approves.
Zeta: We labored hard to reforge your Sword of Justice. I look forward to finally seeing you wield it! Let us make haste!
Grimfax, Unspeakable Terror
Together, Zeta, Kormac, and Tyrael managed to defeat Grimfax. What a monstrous creature! Even in real life, no one wants to encounter a grim fax (especially if it is work-related).
Not So Tough Now: Kill 50 champions of the following types.
Busaw
Ding! Level 46!
Bloatgut the Blasphemous (is running away).
Here comes the Siegebreaker.
The Siegebreaker Assault Beast picks up Zeta for a closer look, confused…
…before dying.
Making a Breakthrough (Nightmare): Kill the Siegebreaker Assault Beast on Nightmare difficulty.
Off we go to kill the Sin Hearts!
Bane the Damned
Evil Eye the Discordant
Treasure Pigmy! Get ’em!
Towards the end of the night, I got an Achievement I didn’t even know existed.
Armed to the Teeth: Equip all Inventory slots with items that have a minimum required level of 25 or higher.
I still have to figure out if the level 25 or higher gear is better than all the stuff I’m wearing now (that gives me more hit points). Overall, a good night. Zeta leveled (twice!) and is now Level 46. I picked up some interesting Achievements along the way, and learned what to do if I want to play by myself for a night. Not bad!
